10 Things To Do With School Based Mentee

Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be. – Rita Pierson, TEDx Education Presenter

  1. Build trust by beginning each meeting with a “get to know you” game!

  2. Read together from a favorite book (both read a chapter of a relevant book each week/month and discuss how it applies to your mentee’s situation at school)!

  3. Eat lunch or snack together!

  4. Act as a sounding board check in about home (be an active listener when your mentee just wants to vent about situations at school or home give advice if asked)!

  5. Establish short/long term academic goals (that you mutually agree upon)!

  6. Have a meaningful conversation about current events!

  7. Talk about your college experience!

  8. Ask your mentee to keep a journal about school and have them read an entry each time you meet!

  9. Help your mentee get started on an important project!

  10. Celebrate your mentee’s achievements!
