June 3  – Contact Dosali to volunteer to distribute flyers about Play Streets. Meet at Lyon Park

June 6 – Contact Dosali to volunteer with during Play Streets.  Students will be assigned a station to help with during the event.  Lots of fun. PYO staff are unfortunately unable to attend but that doesn’t need to stop you.  Great mentor/mentee activity.

June 8 – Mandatory meeting for parents of students of Summer Career Academy. Important papers to sign to enroll students as well as financial literacy meeting to learn about student payment and savings plan.  Light supper at Lyon Park.

June 8 – Will have a drop-in for all parents to stop by at Lyon Park to sign papers for the trip to Valle Crusis and other summer programs as needed.  All payments for the trip should be in by this time.

June 12-14 – The long awaited trip!! Meet at Lyon Park at 12 noon.  Eat before you come and bring a snack if you need to – dinner isn’t til 6:30.  On the way, we will stop at UNC-G for a tour.  Towels and sheets are provided at the Valle Crusis Convention Center.  We will be white water rafting on Saturday.  Back at 3 – please have a ride home at 3!  See packing list below.

Camp Connect, Summer Intensive and Summer Career Academy  will be held in the Mechanics and Farmers Corporate Office at 2634 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd,  27707.  Students have been contacted about which program/s they have been offered.

June 185:30-7:30   Mandatory meeting for Parents of students in Summer Intensive –financial literacy meeting to learn about student payment and savings plan.

5:30-7:30  Mandatory meeting for Parents of students in Summer Career Academy for Introduction in Let’s Talk

Both meetings will be held at Lyon Park.

Trip Packing List

  • shoes suitable for a short hike – sneakers (something other than sandals or flip-flops)
  • comfortable pants or sweat pant
  • shorts and short sleeve shirt
  • bathing suit or clothes that can get wet. Girls will want to t-shirt or tank to wear over a bathing suit when rafting to avoid wardrobe malfunctions when paddling on the rafts. Shorts are also strongly recommended to wear over suits while rafting.
  • pajamas or whatever you want to sleep in.
  • light weight jacket, sweat shirt or long sleeve shirt (it can get chilly in the evenings and we will be outside after dark
  • toothbrush/toothpaste
  • water bottle
  • toiletries
  • Optional – Flashlight, bug spray and sunscreen(we’ll have some of both), sunglasses
  • Not optional – positive attitude and a spirit of adventure.

Students will not have access to cell phones during much of the trip (we’d prefer none).  Please call a staff member (numbers on front of calendar) if you need to get in touch with your son or daughter.
