Meet Samori and Qaadir

Before this past summer, if you asked Partners for Youth Opportunity students Samori and Qaadir what their career aspirations are, they would tell you that they want to be entertainers, whether acting or musically, or businessmen.

Both high school sophomores are studious, receiving good grades in all their school subjects and are also students of history. When they received an offer to intern with Durham’s historic N.C. Mutual Life Insurance Company through PYO, they jumped at the opportunity.

While interning at the company, both boys helped out with office relocation and managed company donations such as calling local nonprofits to see who may need donated materials. They garnered skills, like communication with colleagues and supervisors and understanding company logistics, which could help them in their future entrepreneurial endeavors.

During the six-week summer internship, both saved anywhere between 20 – 40 percent of their stipends to help them fund their college educations and together saved almost $400 for college.

Samori and Qaadir both have a good start but still have a ways to go to be able to fund their higher educations.

You can help both to continue on the path of success.
