Taking the Stewards Fund Challenge

Beginning Feb. 1, Partners for Youth Opportunity kicked off its Stewards Fund Challenge fundraising event. Every dollar donated to PYO through May 1 will be matched dollar for dollar by the Stewards Fund! However, for the organization to receive any matching funds, we must reach our goal of $26,000 by the challenge’s end.

All services received by youth from PYO are FREE and span several years. These include scholarships, job training and internships, access to college advisors and tutors throughout high school as well as trips to various college campuses, businesses and cultural/academic enrichment sites around the state.

As PYO begins spring enrollment for students entering the Summer Career Academy, consider the financial commitment it takes to grant disadvantaged Durham youth access to opportunities for success. Please give today.

March is Women’s History Month

According to the National Women’s History Project’s website, the theme for
2015 is Weaving the Stories of Women’s Lives. Please visit www.nwhp.org for more information on the theme.

Each week at tutoring during March we will discuss an important woman in history.

Upcoming Quarterly Mentor Meeting

PYO mentors need to attend our next quarterly in-house meeting being held Thursday, April 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Please take this opportunity to come together with dozens of other mentors, old and new, and discuss rewards and challenges of mentoring, what has been successful, what do mentors need support with and the bigger context of how they fit in the PYO picture. We will also discuss changes to mentoring logs.
PYO Quarterly Meeting
We will be meeting at the new Durham Co-op Market, the new cooperative grocery store located at 111 W. Chapel Hill St. There will be a food bar available at the co-op if you would like to eat before hand and we will also have a mentor care package open. Reminders will be sent via email.

Also congratulations to our newest mentor matches — Shebbra T. and Zari M. and Laura P. and Juliana H.!!
